Meet Our Coaches

The Athlete Factory offers professional baseball and softball
instruction year round.

Team up with one of our instructors on a regular basis to get the most out of your training! Our coaches specifically tailor their instruction to each individual athlete, and encourage positive progress even outside the facility. The Athlete Factory instructors are all talented and accomplished coaches with an extensive baseball or softball background. The following private and group lessons are offered at The Athlete Factory:

Brad Enfield - Manager, Baseball Pitching 

Brad played baseball at Boonsboro High School where he was a 3 year varsity starter, graduating in 2013. He then played baseball for Funkstown Senior Legion where they won a state championship in 2013 and finished runner up in 2014. Brad then attended Hagerstown Community College where he received the Robert "Turtle" Smith Baseball Scholarship and earned second team All Region XX as a LHP. He currently plays semi-professional baseball for the Hagerstown Braves. Brad is available for lessons at The Athlete Factory in Frederick!

 

Ryan Brown - Baseball Hitting and Fielding

Ryan attended Saint James School and holds Washington County's All-time Hits record (150). He also unofficially holds the Maryland State Hits record. He played for the Mid-Atlantic Red Sox and led the team in hitting. Ryan played in Division I Charleston Southern University in the Big South Conference, and was a 2017 Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League All-Star. Currently Ryan is a member of UMBC's Baseball Team (Division I). Ryan is available for hitting and fielding lessons and clinics during the winter and summer months!

Kaleigh Edwards - Softball Hitting, Fielding, and Catching

High School (Tuscarora High): Hitting .645 (led county as a senior & hit for cycle 2X). Set school records for hits, doubles, triples, home runs and career batting average of .483. 3X Team Captain, Tuscarora Titans. 4X Central
Maryland Conference First Team. Frederick News Post All-County First Team. Tuscarora High's Female FCA 2016 Athlete of the Year. All-State Power Club. National Honor Society & 4-year Scholar Athlete. Helped lead Heartbreakers Gold Travel Club team to 3 ASA Gold Nationals.

College (Central Connecticut State, D1): Started in 30 of 38 games played as a Freshman. Finished year with 17 hits, 20 RBI, 8 runs, 3 doubles before suffering an injury in 2018. Kaleigh will continue her softball career at
Salisbury University in the Fall. Kaleigh is available for softball hitting, fielding, and catching lessons and clinics during the winter and summer months!

Brett Strahin - Baseball Hitting, Fielding, and Baseball/Softball Catching

Brett graduated from Brunswick High School in 2012 where he started every game catching for four years. He received MVAL first team honors his junior and senior years. He continued his baseball career at Frederick Community College. While at FCC, Brett also played semi-professional baseball for the Brunswick Orioles who went to the NABF World Series. Brett then went on to play on scholarship at West Virginia State University before graduating in 2017. Brett is available for catching, hitting, and fielding lessons!

Brandon Erbe - Baseball Pitching

Brandon was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland where he attended the McDonogh School in Owings Mills, Maryland. There he became a first-team All-American baseball player, top 10 national pitching prospect and member of the school’s athletic Hall of Fame. Brandon signed a letter of intent to play baseball at the University of Miami (FL), but chose to forego college after being drafted in the third round of the MLB Amateur Draft by the Baltimore Orioles (93rd overall).

Brandon played 10 years of professional baseball with 3 organizations. He spent 8 years with the Baltimore Orioles while 2 of those years were on the Major League 40-Man roster. He then spent one year with the Philadelphia Phillies and one year with the Colorado Rockies. Brandon was ranked as high as the Orioles' #2 overall prospect following his second professional season and in the top 75 prospects in all of professional baseball by Baseball America. Brandon is currently a student assistant coach for the University of Maryland Terrapins baseball team., where he is a student in their Structural and Geotechnical Engineering Program.

Maddie Stowe - Softball Hitting and Fielding

Maddie graduated from Canton High School in 2016, where after, she joined the Navy and is now currently active duty. In the beginning of her career, she played 3 years of varsity softball in high school and 8 years of travel softball. She played primarily as a catcher for travel ball and as an outfielder for high school. Maddie believes an athlete must be strong not only physically, but mentally as well in their position. Maddie continues her softball career, playing for the All Navy Softball team. Her career average is a .467 with a fielding percentage of .921.

Tyler Henson - Baseball Hitting and Fielding

Drafted out of high school in 2006 in the 5th round by the Baltimore Orioles, Tyler has played for the following teams: Baltimore Orioles: Bluefield Orioles (Orioles short season Appalachian League Team), New York/Penn League All Star for the Aberdeen IronBirds (Orioles short season NY/Penn League Team); Frederick Keys (Orioles High-A Team), Bowie Baysox (Orioles Double-A Team), Baltimore Orioles Big League Spring Training Camp, and the Norfolk Tides (Orioles Triple-A Team). LA Dodgers: the Albuquerque Isotopes (Dodgers Triple-A Team). Philadelphia Phillies: Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Phillies Triple-A Team, 2013-2015).  As a Coach: Tyler began his coaching career in 2016 as the 1st Base Coach, Infield Coach and Assistant Hitting Coach for the Clearwater Threshers (Phillies High-A Team). In 2017, signed as an official hitting coach for the Williamsport Crosscutters (Phillies short season rookie ball team). Tyler is currently the Hitting Coach for the Lakewood BlueClaws (Phillies low A team)!

Claressa Shipman - Softball Pitching and Hitting

Claressa has many years of experience not only as a player, but also as a coach. She has coached Little League, travel teams, helped run camps, taught hitting and fielding, and mostly offered private pitching lessons. Claressa believes in the importance of teaching the proper mechanics, but most importantly teaching her athletes to have confidence and working on the mental aspect of the game as well. While pitching takes a lot of physical strength, it also includes the mental strength and learning those techniques will take the performance of a pitcher to the next level. As a freshman, Claressa appeared in 20 games as a pitcher, with 89.2 innings pitched. Mees proved her worth as she was second on the depth chart with 55 strikeouts. Offensively, Mees hit her first career homerun and finished with 4 RBIs. Claressa starred on the mound in her sophomore season, recording a 1.29 ERA and a 13-4 record in 23 appearances for the Falcons. She was named First Team All-Conference. In her junior season, Claressa again put together a great year. She started 21 games on the mound and appeared in 4 more. She recorded a 2.16 ERA and a 16-4 record. She was named All-Commonwealth Pitcher of the Year and First Team All Commonwealth.  Claressa is available for softball pitching and hitting lessons!

Ellen Martin - Softball Hitting, Fielding, and Catching

Ellen has played softball since 3rd grade. Over the years she has played each position, but eventually specialized in catching. She played on the Seneca Valley High School Varsity Softball team from 2007-2009, where she played outfield (2007) and starting catcher (2008-2009). She also played for the Germantown Thunderbirds tournament team, where she held the position of staring catcher.  In college, she held the position of catcher during her freshman year at The Catholic University of America. During the summers Ellen served as an assistant coach to the Germantown Thunderbirds tournament team. The Thunderbirds merged into the Red Raider’s facility and Ellen continued as an assistant coach for the Red Raiders. As a coach, Ellen specializes in hitting and catching. She has recently put together a team in the Frederick City Coed Softball League and she serves as the team’s representative and 1st baseman.  Ellen is available for softball catching and hitting lessons!
